The Liemers Museum houses a fascinating artifact, the Turmacblikje. Dating back to between 1925 and 1950, this luxurious cigarette box is a product of the Turkish Macedonian Tobacco Company, known as Turmac. Founded in 1920 in Zevenaar, where mass production of cigarettes began immediately. Kiazim Emin Bey made the decision to establish his factory in Zevenaar following a meeting with a local tobacco dealer. In Zevenaar, the Turmac factory produced high-quality cigarettes - four times more expensive than regular ones - along with beautifully crafted tin boxes featuring Eastern designs. This is an example of advanced industry in Gelderland during the twentieth century.
