SCE8UU styled housing for Igus RJMP bearings
thingiverse
I'm swapping out the Y-carriage on my Prusa i3 and I've decided to ditch those flimsy SCE8UU bearings. The housing is actually kind of nice-looking so I've created an alternative using Igus RJMP bearings, making it super easy to swap them in without messing with new holes. Based on a web-drawn design I used - sorry no credit can be given. Check out the Inventor drawing if you're interested. Here are some assembly instructions: Get your print game on and whip up an ABS model! Your holes should be prepped for 4.5mm inner diameter, secured with 4mm screws to give a nice smooth rod fit. Then take it one step further and precision-drill those RJMP bearing holes - EXACTLY 16mm, no need to mess around! Slap those RJMP bearings into their new home (just be careful not to overdo it, less than 2kg of force is the goal). Give that bearing a bit of TLC on a flat surface using an 8mm rod - just flip the thing 180 degrees after you've given one side some love and give it another smooth coat - those bearings should now sit level and looking neat.
