The Heart Model: A Highly Detailed Scanning Project A detailed scanning model of the heart reveals its intricate anatomy with remarkable accuracy. One such model forms part of a limited collection acquired by the Museum from H B Selby & Co in 1919 and 1920. These models, including those bearing the logo of Japanese company Shimadzu and others unmarked but likely manufactured in Japan, showcase Japan's emerging industry. Additionally, they highlight Selby's expansion as a supplier of scientific goods to Australia, while illustrating the continued demand for detailed anatomical models. This model was one of ten objects scanned in 3D for "Hack the Collection," a public program within the 2014 Sydney Design Festival that paired ten contemporary designers with selected items from the Museum's collection. Ten innovative designers worked over two intense days at the Festival FabLab, manipulating digital object files to craft original designs visible to an engaged audience. Following this weekend-long event, their reinterpretations were 3D printed using MakerBots and exhibited alongside their original counterparts for public display.
