The Pinet hydroelectric dam is located in the Tarn valley, on the Viala-du-Tarn commune, in the Aveyron department, downstream of Millau, right in the heart of the Raspes. It's the first dam on the Tarn River (from upstream to downstream). This dam was built from 1926 to 1929. The Tarn has experienced many floods over the years but the flood in 1982 was so strong (2,800 m3/s) that the dam's maximum evacuation rate at the time (3,500 m3/s) wasn't enough. The 18 sector valves of the dam were destroyed to make room for three surface flappers allowing a discharge of 4,400 m3/s in case of a millennial flood. This project took place from 1986 to 1990.
