Scale model of a 6,000-year-old Stone Age grave with mother and child.
thingiverse
This is a highly detailed scale model of a 6,000-year-old Stone Age burial site. The excavation took place in 2017 at an archaeological site in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, where early settlers lived along the river during the Neolithic era. These pioneering people belonged to the Swifterbant culture, marking a significant shift from a traditional hunter-gatherer lifestyle to one focused on cattle farming. Finding ancient skeletal remains is extremely rare, but in this case, the unique combination of clay and peat sedimentation helped preserve the evidence. Inside the burial site are the remnants of a young woman who passed away between 20-30 years old. What's even more astonishing is that archaeologists discovered the remains of an infant nestled in the arms of its mother, believed to be this woman. The baby's teeth were still intact, suggesting it had not reached six months old when it died. This heart-wrenching discovery represents the earliest known example of a baby's burial site in the Netherlands. The model was crafted using Agisoft PhotoScan technology. Update 14-Oct-2018: A revised version featuring only the skeletal remains has been added (skelet800_cutout).
