I decided to create custom accessories for a costume and came up with an idea to make a scale armor shoulder piece. The concept behind scale armor is simple: print, paint, and tie together. For my project, I used a Fabbster G printer and set the print settings with rafts, no supports, and 100% infill. My .stl file contained five variations of scales, so I printed five of each for the first prototype. After sanding the scales down slightly, I applied a silver base coat followed by random brown, rusty paint for an authentic look. Future versions will involve an Acetone dip and additional weathering to the individual scales. To secure everything in place, I utilized 2-3mm leather bands, as demonstrated in the images. Adjusting the tightness of these bands allows you to alter the rigidity of the armor.
