Scalar - Bowden to Direct Drive Adaptator
thingiverse
This part adapts a Bowden system into a direct drive one, converting it with ease. Designed to screw onto an AllInOne hot end support block, making the conversion process seamless. Two versions available depending on X carriage size: For Scalar XL: precise and tailored fit For Scalar M: reliable and smooth performance Updates in store: December 28th 2015: updated extruder body to fit M4 screw heads, streamlining assembly January 19th 2016: fine-tuned the direct drive system for better accuracy Current testing underway: E3D adapter model featuring a 7mm center hole and PTFE tube compatibility. A PTFE tube of 55mm length is required to fit inside the Bowden E3D hot end, ensuring optimal performance. Test results show: The AllInOne model is stable and reliable after a full week-end test cycle Less retraction means less waste, improved efficiency Direct torque application provides precise filament management Reduced string formation during movements for smoother printing Lower print temperatures possible, like 200°C, instead of the previous 210°C. Pneumatic bowden connector hole on the extruder body for effortless setup and integration Perfect solution for a first printing experience, easy-to-handle settings More filament usage, recycling left over material from previous Bowden setups possible. However: Some build height loss as the stepper motor is now located above the hotend, aligned with printer frame's top axis Stepper motor's presence restricts high-speed and high-acceleration movements in printers equipped with fragile filaments. Broken filament can become problematic within the extruder body. Important: This part remains a prototype and may require further adjustments. Please follow updates for the latest information. Recent updates: December 26th, 2015: Update to E3D model now features a larger 7mm center hole Same update day, adding an updated extruder body with 7mm central opening December 22nd 2015: minor fixes made on models; an adaptor added for Scalar XL printers Get your adaptive Bowden-to-direct-drive conversion part from: http://www.3dmodularsystems.com
