Scalable Snake Puzzle

The classic puzzle gets a modern twist through 3D printing technology. The design boasts an intelligent resize feature, which adjusts both the piece and connector ring proportionally as needed. A helpful hint for assembly: insert the snap ring into one piece, then perform a circular motion with the second piece to compress the ring until it snaps securely in place. The biggest hurdle I faced while designing this puzzle was achieving complete printability without relying on supports. After several iterations of the connector mechanism, I settled on an internal compression ring that provides a flexible, spring-like feel even after moderate wear and tear. This design also features a 45-degree interface to prevent breakage when disassembled (a secondary benefit is that it prints without support). My second major challenge was addressing sharp edges resulting from the first layer and top layer. Initially, these edges were prone to breaking easily and could cause scratches or high spots during rotation. However, chamfering the edges made a significant difference in resolving this issue.
