Part of an educational set for examining wooden structure in timber grading. This model simplifies sawn timber, highlighting growth rings, sapwood, heartwood, and knots. The wood is depicted transparently to expose the knots within. When sawing the wood, grain, knots, and wane rely heavily on the direction of the cut and its position within the log.
