Saw Blade Universal Case / Cover
thingiverse
I designed this for my 10" Hitachi Miter Saw blades, and it fits perfectly. This design can also be used for other size blades by scaling it up or down by 10% per inch (so a 7.25" blade would require scaling on the Z and X axes to 72.5%). Since the blade thickness remains relatively consistent, I keep Y scaling at 100%. This allows the two halves of the design to fit together better. The outer piece has a window that lets you see what kind of blade is inside without having to open it. I printed this on a 220x220mm platform using PLA at 190 degrees with a 50-degree bed temperature. Initially, I experienced problems with warping when printing on a BuildTak surface, but switching to a strip of painters tape solved the issue. To print successfully, I recommend using a 5mm or 8mm brim and no supports are needed. To ensure a smooth print, place the curved side up and the flat side on the tape and brim, then print diagonally on the bed. A .3 layer thickness worked well for me. For the inner case, I printed without a brim and the edges came out slightly rough but didn't affect the fit. I plan to add a customizer script in the future that will allow users to scale the design before downloading STL files, making it easy to adapt to different blade sizes using any slicer software.
