Savannah River Style Spear Point Uncovered in Piedmont Region of North Carolina The exact location where this remarkable artifact was discovered remains a mystery. Dating back to the Late Archaic period, which spanned from 3000 to 1000 BC, this piece is a testament to the ingenuity and skill of ancient civilizations. Crafted from metavolcanic rock, its dimensions are impressive: measuring 117.2 mm in length, 46.0 mm in width, and a thickness of 10.7 mm. This unclassified specimen was generously donated by Herbert M. Doerschuk to the North Carolina Archaeological Collection at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A model of this spear point was created by Steve Davis and Stephanie Grant, bringing its intricate details to life for all to see.
