Satyr [1]

Satyr [1]

myminifactory

This marble head was prominently displayed on a wall, likely in a dining room known as a triclinium. The Satyroi were rustic fertility spirits of the countryside and wilds who freely consorted with the Nymphai and served as companions to the gods Dionysos, Hermes, Hephaistos, Pan, Rhea-Kybele, and Gaia. Depicted as men with animalistic features, they had asinine ears, pug noses, and hair that fell in a reclining line from their scalps, along with horse tails and erect members. As companions of Dionysos, the Satyroi are often shown drinking, dancing, playing flutes, and sporting with the Mainades. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe. Through Scan the World, we are building a free public database for everyone to access. It's an open-source community effort where anyone with interesting items can contribute by emailing stw@myminifactory.com.
