The Saturn V Second Stage was powered by five J-2 engines. Once the first stage fell away, the second stage burned for about six minutes, propelling the spacecraft and its payload to an altitude of 115 miles. The second stage was then jettisoned. The Apollo configuration reached a height of 115 statute miles, traveled 935 miles downrange, and achieved a speed of 15,500 miles-per-hour during its 6-112 minute performance.
