The Saturn V, an iconic American rocket used between 1966 and 1973 for NASA's Apollo program, was developed by Wernher von Braun and Arthur Rudolph at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. With Boeing, North American Aviation, Douglas Aircraft Company, and IBM as lead contractors, this three-stage liquid-fueled launch vehicle remains the tallest, heaviest, and most powerful rocket ever brought to operational status. It launched 13 times without loss of crew or payload and holds records for heaviest payload and largest capacity to low Earth orbit. Despite being replaced by other rockets, Saturn V is still recognized as the only launch vehicle able to transport humans beyond low Earth orbit.
