Saturn-And-Cassini-2017
thingiverse
This detailed 3D printed model features Saturn with its intricate ring system, including the main rings A, B, and C, plus illustrations of inner D Ring and outer F Ring. The accurate oblate hemi-spheroid planet is set on a flat surface to showcase the Cassini Spacecraft's 2017 proximal-orbit trajectory. The model also displays the extent of the "planet shadow" as it would appear in September 2017, while accurately representing the Cassini Division, Enke and Maxwell gaps within the rings. Created using OpenSCAD, the model is outputted as an .stl file for easy printing. For optimal viewing, a simple "2017" character block is added to unite the outer parts of the ring system with the planet-shadow when printed. The rings' thickness is exaggerated for visibility in the scale model, and B Ring is made thicker for mechanical stability. If available, print the SaturnBaseplate.stl in a contrasting color beneath this model for added effect. Discussions on printing can be found at SpacecraftKits.com.
