Satisfying Gears(Involute Gear Pair Generator)

thingiverse

New Update: 1.7, September 28, 2019
* Gear/Ring Gear pairs are now debugged to display center distances correctly. * A document with the math formulas is included for reference. * The "flower petal effect" has been eliminated when setting unusually high pressure angles. Downloading files individually from Thingiverse may be required until the zip file update. This script generates a compatible pair of involute gears or an involute gear and ring gear pair. It's a clean write based on the math formulas. For more information, refer to the usual literature on involute gears.
Ver 1.1
* Added a function to calculate center distance for use in other parts of your model. * Introduced GearAGhost and GearBGhost parameters for quick design by avoiding calculation time during the process. * These allow you to show a simplified cylinder representation of your gears individually.
Ver 1.2
Improved calculations on corner cases, resulting in better-formed tooth corners without excessive angular resolution.
Ver 1.3
Improved GearAGhost and GearBGhost to display both the pitch diameter (red) and outer diameter (grey).
Ver 1.4
Fixed the Broken Rendering issue that existed in versions V1.2 and V1.3.
Ver 1.5
Fixed a bug in calculating the root clearance of teeth.
Ver 1.6
Added Parameters to add backlash to gears, including BacklashA and BacklashB, which narrow the teeth by the specified amount along the pitch circle.
Ver 1.7
* Added Gear/Ring Gear pairs. * The ring gear should have at least twice as many teeth as the pinion gear. * Use examples like SatisfyingPolygonGearRingDebug.scad with animation view enabled to inspect whether the teeth interfere. * Read comments in files for instructions. The comments in SatisfyingGears1.7.scad list all available parameters for each module with descriptions preceding the modules. People who like themselves define their parameters as variables, then pass these variables to gears and functions like "CalcPairGearsCenterDistance" or "CalcPairGearRingGearCenterDistance" to use in designs. In OpenSCAD, variables defined inside curly brackets get forgotten when leaving those brackets. Added an example for debugging parameters for designing a planetary gear set: intergalacticPlanetaryTryer.scad. Setting debug or ghost to true now displays center distances above the gears. See the included document "SatisfyingGears.odt" with math formulas to help you while working with this library. This release solves an issue where, if the addendum calculation is higher than where the left and right circular involute curves cross, a triangular flower petal appears on the end of the gear tooth. This was an issue when choosing unusually high pressure angles.
OpenScad
With OpenSCAD, include this library in the same folder as your design. Provide parameters, and it generates a pair of Involute gears to be used in your OpenSCAD Design. See provided example files. * (http://www.openscad.org/) OpenSCAD is free and amazing. Use it! * You need the free program called OpenSCAD. OpenSCAD can generate stl files from your design to use with other tools. * OpenSCAD-(Fix puking previews by Edit/Preferences/Advanced/ForceGoldFeather).
