Türksat 5A, millî imkânlarla Türkiye'de birleştirilen ve 8 Ocak 2021 Cuma günü Türkiye saati ile 05.15'te uzaya gönderilen haberleşme uydusudur.Eylül 2011'de yapılan antlaşmaya binaen, Türksat and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) tarafından Türkiye'de geliştirilmiş bir uydudur. TAI'nin Ankara yerleşkesindeki Uydu Montaj, Entegrasyon ve Test (UMET) biriminde, en az %20 yerli ve milli kaynaklarla Airbus firması ile iş birliği sonucunda geliştirilmiş ilk yerli teknolojilerin de kullanıldığı iletişim uydusudur. Takibinde gelecek Türksat 5B'de daha yüksek oranlarda yerel kaynaklar kullanılacaktır. Projenin ileriki amaçlarından birisi de Türksat 6A ve Türksat 6B uydularının tamamen yerli kaynaklarla geliştirilmesidir.Uydu tamamen 12 kilowatt elektrik güç birimi çalışacak Eurostar-3000EOR sistemi üstüne kurulmuş ve 3,5 ton ağırlığa sahiptir. Yörünge yerleşimi olarak 31° Doğu yörüngesi hedeflenmiştir. Uydu 8 Ocak 2021 günü fırlatılmış ve roket tercihi olarak SpaceX firmasına ait Falcon 9 roketi tercih edilmiştir. Uydunun yörüngedeki frekans ve yörünge haklarını 30 yıl güvence altına alması bekleniyor.
