SAS/SATA tray caddy adapter 2.5"
thingiverse
I had a collection of 2.5" SAS drives that I wanted to fit into 3.5" drive caddies. While I could tighten two screws and make it work, I'd feel more confident with a bracket holding the drive securely in place. I still need to drill screw holes for securing it to the 3.5" caddy and the 2.5" drive - I will revise this once I print out a test. I designed it based on measurements of a production part that serves the same purpose. This was for a Dell server, but should work with any 3.5" drive caddies. Edit 6/13/19: It turns out this insert fits perfectly into the drive caddy on the first try! There's no need to add screw holes since the drives are secured to the caddy on one side and the insert squeezes in, holding the other side with friction. I left a lot of empty space and added holes to the front for proper ventilation - it has more vent holes than the production piece that serves the same purpose. I'd be willing to add screw holes if anyone's interested, but I'm using it as is.
