I'm thrilled that my 15-year-old son Sem will embark on an epic adventure, sailing across the Atlantic ocean while completing his schoolwork, starting in October 2019. As a proud parent, I'll be cheering him on from afar, but I must admit I'll miss him dearly. To stay connected to his journey, I created a mechanical globe that displays the ship's current position in real-time. The most daunting task for me was designing and building the mechanism to rotate the globe smoothly. After many trials and errors, I finally cracked the code. You can watch my creation come to life in these videos: [link] and [link]. If you're inspired by Sem's journey or want to support him financially, please visit his website at [link]. All contributions will be greatly appreciated! For those who are interested in creating their own mechanical globe, I've made the OpenSCAD and FreeCAD files available on GitHub at [link].
