Sargon of Akkad mask
thingiverse
07/09/2018 Update for all downloaders: I've reduced the number of polygons to make the model downloadable. I corrected holes, lips, and nose, giving the mask a more semitic appearance like the original. I lack good pictures of this mask, so if you have some, please message me. The fine 356-megabyte model still exists, and I'll correct the ears by the end of the month. This version is now printable with easy3d, repetier, icesl, and simplify. A new version with clever supports allows for fast printing without automatically generated supports. I've seen errors described in comments and am refining the model. The original model was made with lightwave, which isn't ideal for printing. I'm currently refining it with sculptris, adding more polygons. However, the new definitive model is too large for thingiverse (357 megabytes), so I've simplified polygons despite its printability. A new version will be posted as soon as possible. The only way to print this is with the nose facing upwards and works with simplify. To make it printable full size on smaller printers like mine, a split model will need to be added. The model has been remodeled with the complete head and refined hair texture based on the helmet of Meskalamdug's indications. My account is dedicated to highlighting art pieces that are endangered, destroyed, or underappreciated, rarely shown or unavailable in 3D. The Sargon mask of the Akkadian king dates back to 2334-2284 BC, approximately 5,000 years ago. Unfortunately, the US Army allowed robbers and Islamists to destroy it piece by piece in 2003. Only a few pictures remain, and the negatives available are low-resolution, with no 4x5-inch negative existing. This model was created using photogrammetry as a tool for reconstructing it with imagine3d and finalized with lightwave 3D.
