Human: Sarcophagus with Ichthyocentaurs and Nereids created during the early years of the 3rd century AD and now showcased at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, a renowned museum in Italy. In ancient Greek mythology, ichthyocentaurs emerged as a fascinating race of sea-gods with human upper bodies, horse lower front halves, fish tails, and distinctive lobster-claw horns on their heads. Among them were Aphros and Bythos, two half-brothers of the wise centaur Chiron and sons of the powerful Titan Cronus and Nymph Philyra. On the other hand, the Nereids are female spirits that inhabit sea waters, being the 50 daughters of Nereus and Doris. As sisters to Nerites, they often accompany Poseidon, the god of the sea, and can be friendly and helpful to sailors, as seen in their interactions with the Argonauts during their epic quest for the Golden Fleece.
