Sarcophagus Pantano-Borghese
thingiverse
Sarcophagus, 250-300 CE, Pantano-Borghese (Italy), marble. Musée du Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium). Made with ReMake and ReCap Pro from AutoDesk. Bust of the deceased takes center stage in the tank, a voluminous roll of papyrus clutched tightly in her hands. A spherical object sits proudly on an altar before her. Hypnos or Thanatos? The genies on either side support a richly draped parapetasma. Flanking the group are a peacock and a lion devouring an ibex, representing humanity's spiritual survival and material destruction by death. This reused sarcophagus has been transformed into a beautiful fountain basin. Follow me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal for more updates!
