Sarcophagus decorated with garlands and lion heads
myminifactory
This sarcophagus, found with another in a painted tomb in Sidon, is typical of the production of the city's workshops. It is decorated with thick garlands of flowers and leaves attached to rings held in the mouths of lions (sometimes griffins). These elements were inspired by the metal handles used for carrying wooden coffins. The garlands recall those that were placed on coffins at funerals.
