Roman sarcophagus, crafted in the third quarter of the 2nd century AD, was likely reshaped and refurbished during the Renaissance era. The Proconnesian marble exterior is complemented by a Luna marble lid. Scenes from Achilles' life adorn the cost with vivid detail. A prominent relief on the front showcases Achilles, disguised as a girl at Lykomedes' court in Skyros, exposed by Trojan envoys who bring him gifts that reveal his true identity. The ends of the sarcophagus depict later exploits at Troy: Achilles killing Hector on one side and Penthesilea, Queen of the Amazons, on the other.
