Sap tap
thingiverse
A sap tap for tapping sap from trees into PET bottles or any container with a matching thread. The goal is to venture out in the spring when snow is almost completely melted. Drill a hole into a tree, about 5cm deep, approximately 80cm above ground level. Birch is considered optimal, unless Canadian maple is readily available. Attach the sap tap, secure the bottle to the tree, and wait for several days. Once the sap begins flowing, your container should quickly fill up - a large tree can produce around 400 liters of water daily, generating at least 10 liters of sap each day. Close the hole once enough has been collected. The cap may be attached to prevent loss. This approach is ideal for small-scale testing and tasting purposes. For larger operations, use a large bucket and a small garden hose directly connected to the tree.
