Sanwa OBSF-30 Silencer Pads (TPU)

I created these custom silencers for my Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons to eliminate the loud "clacking" sound that occurs when a hard press bottoms out a button. Sanwa offers silent buttons with a distinct "rubbery" feel, but they come in limited color options and have a different tactile sensation. My design was inspired by commercial 1mm thick foam material silencer pads found at popular online arcade suppliers. Like their commercial counterparts, my buttons won't become completely silent, but they will be significantly quieter. Since the pads are only 0.5mm thick, the original button travel is barely reduced. A common complaint about thicker foam pads is that they can sometimes "eat" a soft press due to their thickness. In contrast, these thin pads won't engage until the button is pushed well past the closed position, ensuring that soft presses remain unaffected. To assemble the silencers: Print one pad for each button using TPU filament. Typically, the nozzle will leave behind a small blob on top after finishing the print; use flush cutters or fingernails to trim off any excess material. Remove the Sanwa plunger from the button by gently squeezing the plunger clips inward while pushing the plunger up. Insert the pad so that its ears fit into the slots where the plunger tabs would normally sit (see photo). Replace the plunger by carefully pushing it on until the tabs click into place. Install the button in your control panel, and enjoy a more stealthy approach to your games.
