Santiago de Galicia, Ribadeo '19 pre-disturbance
sketchfab
The first thorough survey of the wreckage on the inaugural day of the 2019 archaeological expedition to the Santiago de Galicia, a Spanish galleon from the second armada under Felipe II, which sank in the Ribadeo estuary in November 1597, got underway. This extensive dig ran from June 3rd to June 21st with its primary goal being to research the hull's structure and construction style. Prior to any disturbance of the site, this comprehensive view was painstakingly compiled due to time constraints caused by setup procedures and tidal fluctuations on the first day, though full coverage of the midship area, the focal point of this year's excavation efforts, was successfully achieved. Excavation progress will be made visible soon. Scales measuring 30 x 10 meters are used for reference purposes. The north arrow is positioned approximately where it should be. This reconstruction was produced from 750 individual images taken with a Nikon D7000 camera and an Orcalight Seawolf 1560 lighting system, then edited in Metashape, Zbrush, and Blender software.
