Santes Creus tombs (7 of 7). Jaume Valls
sketchfab
Jaume Valls (1534-1560) rests within the chapter house of Santes Creus monastery in Catalonia. He directed further improvement works initiated by Abbot Tolrà, and the bridge over Gaià was constructed under his supervision. Abbot Valls is depicted wearing a chasuble, gloves, and a ring, all traditional components of an abbey's attire. The staff he holds is adorned with a characteristic veil, its shape curved like that of the Western church. In contrast, Eastern church staffs typically end in a tau shape. Valls' head rests on a plain pillow, while his miter appears to have been ornamented, although its details are now indistinguishable. The family crest is situated between his feet, and the funerary inscription remains intact. The figure of Abbot Valls is posed completely frontally.
