Sanitary Nose Scratcher
thingiverse
Don't touch your face! It's a bad habit you just can't shake off sometimes, but that doesn't mean you should let it get the best of you. Introducing the sanitary nose scratcher - a lifesaver for those who constantly use their hands to interact with the public or work in close quarters. This nifty pendant stays safe and protected under its retractable lid, so when an itch strikes, you can scratch away without worrying about germs. The business end of this clever gadget is designed to stay isolated from your face at all times. With a simple thumb slide, the lid automatically lifts up, revealing a gently rounded nub with satisfying corners that will scratch every itch. And don't worry - once you sanitize it with some alcohol or Purell, you can safely use it without worrying about germs. This handy tool is perfect for cashiers, clerks, and stockers who are constantly on the go and can't afford to get their hands dirty (or germ-covered). Keep it on a lanyard around your neck so it's always within reach. And remember, please stay safe and sane in this time of the coronavirus. **Assembly Instructions** To put this amazing gadget together, you'll need: 1) A short length of 1.75mm diameter filament to act as a hinge pin for the lid. 2) A small #10 size rubber band (or any 1/16" width rubber band cut to length and knotted). 3) A couple drops of superglue to glue on the end cap. 4) String for a lanyard. First, test fit your filament hinge pin in the hole in the body and in the hole in the lid. Clean out any debris with a small drill bit (0.070" - 0.073") if necessary. Drill from the front to back of the body, but don't go all the way through - you want the bottom of the hole to be tapered so the filament hinge pin can fit snugly in place. Next, test assemble the probe inside the body to make sure it slides up and down smoothly. Sand off any lumps or nits until everything is silky smooth. Also, test assemble the lid and sand off any rough bits until it flips open without rubbing. Now, hook the rubber band over the top edge of the rib found on the bottom edge of the probe. Stretch the band so that each side lies in the grooves on either side of the rib. Insert the probe all the way into the body with the band coming out of the bottom, and then loop the end over the little hook at the bottom of the body. At this point, the probe wants to come shooting out of the bottom - but hold it in place while you insert the lever arm of the lid into the side slot at the top of the body. Line up the hole in the lid with the hole in the body and insert the hinge pin. Press the pin firmly into place and cut off any excess length. The scratcher should now be functional - test it to make sure it slides freely, and that the rubber band has sufficient tension to keep the lid firmly closed. Next, insert the end cap and glue in place with a couple drops of superglue. Finally, add your lanyard. Before using, and every so often as a precaution, sterilize the end of the probe with alcohol.
