Sand Smoother for Deluxe Pit & Pendulum
thingiverse
A friend of mine owns a Pit and Pendulum sand sculpture, similar to this one: https://www.thegreenhead.com/2011/02/pit-pendulum-chrome.php. The manufacturer simply provides a split tube piece to slip over the pendulum, redistributing and freshening the sand. It works passably but falls short. He asked if I could create something custom, which led me to design this result. It functions exceptionally well. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of it, but it's a simple, sleek solution that slips over the pendulum and matches its curved shape. Printed in translucent red, it has a stylish appearance. The conical section was designed with a significantly larger angle than the pendulum to ensure a snug fit. A tiny hole at the tip sets its position, requiring some patience to drill or cut with an X-Acto blade if needed. This design should accommodate any 24 mm diameter pendulum comfortably. The internal diameter is slightly wider at 24.5 mm, providing a gentle friction fit. If your printer produces a tight fit, you can easily saw it down the side. I printed this piece at 0.1 mm height to create smooth contours on its spherical face. Printing at 0.2 mm would result in too few layers and leave unsightly tracks in the sand. I opted for a light infill as it doesn't require exceptional strength, and no support is necessary due to its radius and conical shapes.
