Inside a 16th-century chapel built on the medieval ruins of a small basilica with a vaulted apse and square-section pillars, this fragmentary fresco can be seen. The figures depicted are somewhat crude: Saint Joseph, the Madonna with child, Christ, and Saint Paul of the Serpents. The austere and rigid saint of Catholic tradition assumes popular characters tainted with magic and mysticism in this version, echoing ancient Dionysian rites from Greek and Messapian memory. This structure is located on the acropolis of ancient Veretum (Baris) in the municipality of Patù, Italy.
