San Miguel de Lillo, Oviedo
sketchfab
Ramiro I (842-850) orders the construction of a temple that has been dedicated to St. Michael since at least the 12th century. It is located about 300 meters northwest of Santa María de Naranco. By the late 11th century, it had suffered a collapse that affected two-thirds of its original structure. Only the western sector remained standing. After demolishing the ruins, the remaining structure was consolidated and completed with a rustic eastern chapel built in the same 11th century or early 12th century. Both reused pieces and newly carved ones are part of this structure, which lacks stylistic unity. The most notable feature on the outside is the series of recessed grilles, two original ones being preserved on the west facade and the south facade.
