Iglesia de San Miguel. San Miguel de Escalada was a monastery located near the town of the same name, in the municipality of Gradefes, province of León. It is situated on the Camino de Santiago, 27 kilometers from the city of León. From the monastery, only the temple remains today. The monastery was consecrated in the year 913 by Abbot Alfonso, who had arrived in León along with other monks from Córdoba. For some authors, it would be a Moorish work, included within the so-called repopulation art, just as the Reconquest advanced. The Mozarabic temple was built using materials from previous eras, Visigothic and Roman. It has been classified as a National Monument since 1886. The temple's plan is basilical with three naves, separated by arches over columns, some reused, on which horseshoe arches rest. The straight exterior head houses three ultrasemicircular plant apses.
