In a niche beneath a grave arched in stone (arcosolium), 1-2 coffins are laid to rest. This identical arched recess is situated within the upper level of the Catacombs of San Gennaro, located in Naples. These subterranean tombs were used for centuries as burial sites from the 2nd century AD to the Middle Ages. The condition of the vibrant paintings is alarmingly poor: A red border system divides the surface into geometric patterns, within which various objects are depicted such as a dolphin, a standing naked figure, and two reddish ornaments adorned with rays above. On the left side, a recess was reserved for a lamp. Processed from 180 photographs taken collectively by GDH, the Zamani Project, Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”, and the Administration of the Catacombe di Napoli in collaboration. The resulting model was processed using Reality Capture technology. The descriptions provided were authored by Senior Professor Dr. Dieter Korol, an esteemed member of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster faculty.
