San Gennaro Catacomb Fresco, Napoli (21B)
sketchfab
The arched recess (arcosolium) for at least two interments is situated in a hypogeum (a subterranean burial site of greater extent) within the upper level of the Catacomb. The recess is currently dated to the 3rd century AD and belongs to the earliest portion of that level. Illustrations: A red and orange border system divides the surface into geometric patterns, where objects such as a bust (encircled by a green circle), fruits, and dolphins were placed. Red flowers and branches with green foliage adorn the background. On the rear wall stands on a bluish-green ground zone, beside a trunk of a tree, a man clad in a dark garb with a long, slender staff in his hand. Processed from 200 photographs and 2 laser scans. The outcome of a collaborative project between GDH, the Zamani Project, Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”, and the Administration of the Catacombe di Napoli. Processed through Reality Capture. The descriptions were provided by Senior Professor Dr. Dieter Korol, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Project # Fresco 21b.
