The extinct stratovolcano north of Flagstaff, Arizona serves as a unique 3D printing subject using free USGS topographical data. Matt Mechtley, with assistance from Sean Ragan, transformed the height field into printable form. Mechtley is also working on a tutorial for converting USGS topo data into printable terrain maps. After slicing the .stl file with skeinforge and other software, printing can begin.
