Samurai Mask, Edo Era.
thingiverse
I recently visited a museum and was struck by the imposing presence of a samurai mask from the Edo period, dated to around 1710 and crafted from robust cast iron. Intrigued by its historical significance, I decided to capture detailed images of the artifact using my camera. Utilizing a photogrammetry service offered by Autodesk, specifically Recap360, I was able to convert approximately 50 photographs into a highly accurate three-dimensional model. This powerful tool is available for free, albeit with certain limitations, which can be found at recap360.autodesk.com. As I experimented with the model, I opted to have it 3D printed in a single piece, replicating its full scale and proportions. The printing process took roughly five hours to complete, resulting in a wearable replica that is remarkably faithful to the original.
