Samsung Galaxy S5 power socket key
thingiverse
My girlfriend struggled with unscrewing the Galaxy S5's charging door from its socket because it features an integrated water-repellent barrier by default. She could use her fingernails to force it open, but this wasn't always successful so I decided to create a tool that she could keep near her bed to help charge her phone quickly every night. Then, the idea came to design the tool as a clip-on device that could attach securely to the end of her Galaxy S3's USB 3.0 charger so it wouldn't get misplaced easily. This was simply achieved with a rectangular shape fitted snugly around the connector plug where it mates with her phone. She however requested a tighter clipping mechanism to prevent loss and as such, I proceeded through multiple refinements until relocating the tooth-like structure resulted in making hooking onto the charging door latch more manageable even when still attached to the cable. As the design evolved further, things started getting increasingly elaborate but so far it is functioning correctly despite only being produced from PLA. Interestingly enough, the small 'teeth' did not come loose which prompted the notion that maybe one has to lightly smooth out the edge for best opening results of her phone's charge port.
