Sample Filament Rack for Printrbot Simple Metal
thingiverse
I bought a bunch of filament sample rolls from Amazon and got tired of the constant problems with filament tangling up during prints, so I came up with a simple free-hanging filament holder solution. This setup does not attach to any Z-posts; instead, it just sits on top of them. My print ended up being only 0.01 inches larger than necessary, resulting in an extremely precise fit. The spool fits snugly into the fixture thanks to a flat key that prevents it from rolling around. It is easy to remove for quick changes when needed. I was able to successfully hold a full spool even with a 50% infill print. This project marked my first completed item made entirely on my own, so I decided to upload it here. I know the model's size and orientation may be a bit off due to inexperience; I used 10x zoom and tried printing it lying flat to fix these issues. Here are the settings I used for the Simple Metal object: Layer Height: .2 Bottom/Top layer height: .6 Fill density: 30% Speed: 40 Temperature: 208 degrees Fahrenheit No supports were needed in this case However, when printing in Cura, I encountered small objects that puzzled me; increasing the zoom to 10x and orienting them lying flat should help. I look forward to any feedback!
