Samovars, traditionally made from iron, copper, brass, bronze, silver, gold, tin or nickel, are a central part of Russian culture and tea-drinking rituals. They consist of a large metal container with a faucet, a vertical pipe filled with solid fuel for heating the water, a small smoke-stack for draft, and a teapot for brewing tea concentrate. The tea is diluted with boiled water, typically at a 10:1 ratio, and the samovar facilitates communal tea drinking over extended periods. Historically, it also provided a constant source of hot water in households. Today, samovars symbolize Russian nostalgia, are popular among Iranian immigrants, and can be found in areas with large Slavic or Iranian populations.
