Samla Filament Hygrometer Holder
thingiverse
I'm a bit of a thrifty guy, I must admit. I generally try not to spend more than necessary - except when it comes to workshop tools, which I expect to last longer in return for my extra investment. I was wondering if my filament is stored dry enough in my samla containers. There are plenty of digital hygrometer sensors available on aliexpress, but they all require a few button cells per year to function, which isn't very environmentally friendly and costs money too. So I opted for these simple devices on Aliexpress instead, which will never need batteries. And let's be honest, in our use case we don't need precise reporting down to the percent - knowing whether it's "pretty dry" or "somewhat damp" is all that matters. If you're having trouble following the instructions below, take a look at the pictures - they might help clarify things. When the hygrometers arrive, simply snap off the outer ring that holds the front glass. Remove the glass and then snap the ring back on (if you don't do this, the dial of the hygrometer will get stuck later). The holder is designed to be installed using three regular "#6-32 PC screws", which are commonly used in PC cases. If you've ever had a PC, chances are you have a bunch of these screws lying around. You won't need the fine-threaded 3mm variant typically used for hard drives and motherboards - instead, use the slightly coarser version often used on slot brackets. **Read the printing section carefully before you print**. After the holder has finished printing, use a T9 torx or similar to clean out the screw holes with a bit of force. Then drive your screw into each hole once and fully to create a thread in the plastic. Use a marker to mark the three holes on your samla and drill them using a 4mm wood drill. Finally snap the hygrometer into the holder and install it using the three screws.
