SamBox Dry Spoolholder Polish shop here. Simple, elegant easy and cheap solution to ensure your filament stays dry while printing. Great for nylon, pla, or even rubbery filaments like tpu. https://youtu.be/VJC-9On5VxM Added Sambox post Clip. This piece of hardware clips on a shaft on which spool is sitting and protects spool from sliding. Aside from printed parts you will need: SAMLA box 11 liters from Ikea with clips (link to 3d printed versions I am using below) 3x 3m x 10mm screws and nuts 10x 3m x 20mm screws and nuts 4x 4m x 25mm screws and nuts Any type of bowden push fit connector and matching screw to it OR 2x 4mm nuts (for 1.75mm filament) Some sort of adhesive seal or rubber gasket (I use a spongy seal for windows, not best but works a ok) Preferably anti slip feets for base. You will also need drill and screwdriver. Instruction: -----If you are unsure about what part goes where take a look at uploaded images. They show you a printed parts only with their position relative to each other.----- 1- Print everything. 2- Use "SamBox Backplate" to mark 2 drill holes for screws on a back of a box. Before marking them make sure that it sits well against back of SAMLA box and its shorter side, on the outside of a box. 3- Drill 2 holes and screw "SamBox Backplate" to a Samla box using "SamBox spool post" on inside using 2x 3m x 20mm screws and nuts. You might need to drill out holes in 3d printed parts a bit as they might be tight. 4- Make sure Everything is sitting well, straight and square with box, if not then adjust to make it that way. 5- Drill out remaining holes on a back of SAMLA box using "SamBox Backplate" as a guide. Then screw everything down with remaining 8x 3m x 20mm screws and nuts. If you want you can probably leave about half of them out but in that case DO NOT drill holes in box where you dont want to put screws as moisture and air will be leaking that way into a box. 6- Drill remaining 4 holes using bigger drill bit using "SamBox Backplate" as a guide. Then fit "SamBox feet" on the bottom of "SamBox backplate" using 4x 4m x 25mm screws and nut using a "SamBox inplate" as a washer for nuts that sits inside the samla box. Make sure "SamBox feet" is pointing in the correct way. Logo on it needs to point towards open face of box. 7- Fix "SamBox post support" to "sambox spool post" temporary using some weak adhesive or putty, then put a lid on a Samla box and mark position of 3 holes using "SamBox post support" as a reference. Take it apart, drill out holes and screw it together using 3x 3m x 10mm screws and nuts with "SamBox nameplate on outside part of the lid. "Sambox post support" is optional, however it will lower the chance of "SamBox spool post" breaking as it will provide some support on its end. 8- Put rubber seal/gasket inside a lid grove or on SAMLA box rim making sure that when lid is put in place it will create as thigh seal as possible. You can put seal both on rim of SAMLA box and grove of lid. 9- Figure out where you want your filament to leave from, It depends on its position relative to printer. In my case its on right side of box somewhere between 1/5 and 1/4 of height of box away from its top. Then drill hole that and put your pneumatic bowden fitting trough it screwing it to a box using appropriate nut. You can also use 2x m4 nut. If you want to go this route you need to force screw said nut onto a piece of bowden ptfe tubing, then thread that tubing on throught hole i SAMLA box and then screwing another m4 nut onto it from other side securing it in place. If you use 2x m4 nut method you might need to drill out ptfe tube inside with 2mm drillbit to ensure smooth movement as its sqeezed by nut. Now you need to fit or put your dessicant/dessicant container of choice inside, put filament spool on the post, thread filament through ptfe tubing and seal everything away with clips.
