SALOMÓN Y MOISÉS

Maestro Mateo and his workshop circa 1200 Granite The first section of the left facade of the Holy Door is topped with figures of King Solomon and Moses from the choir of Maestro Mateo. Both figures would originally be located at the respective ends of the coronation of the trascoro facade, where in prefigurations of Christ, Moises's brother Aaron and Samuel would sit to the left of the Epiphany tympanum; and on the other side, the kings of Judah, Saul, David, and Solomon. A similar content is repeated in the sculptural ensemble of the exterior facade of the Glory Porch. King Solomon repeats the iconic model used by Mateo on the Pórtico facade, where he paired with his father David once again, and in the interior cresting of the choir, he faces off against the Queen of Sheba; raising and showing the palm of his right hand bordered by the mantle. Meanwhile, Moses recalls his homonym in the Porch.
