Salk Institute
thingiverse
A model of the Salk Institute in La Jolla (San Diego), California. I relied on Louis Kahn's original sketches, satellite imagery, and my own in-person explorations to make it as accurate as possible. I worked for Salk's Harnessing Plants Initiative for over 2 years, so I made sure to include the plant biology buildings. I did all the modeling in Autodesk Fusion 360. The transparent models in the photos are cast resin. I 3D printed a box around the building model, made a negative mold with silicone, then cast the positive in craft resin.
