Saladier aux esclaves
sketchfab
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the triangular trade and slave trade were the primary economic drivers of Atlantic maritime commerce. This was initiated by the development of sugar plantations in Brazil, which led to the launch of transatlantic trading voyages from the 16th century onwards. France's first slave expedition was sent in 1643 to Saint-Christophe Island, the first French colony in the Antilles. Commissioned by Pierre Bréban de Montreuil-Bellay in 1785, this slave ship is a polychrome ceramic dish from Nevers, fired at high temperature with a cordoned border. It's one of the main pieces in the New World Museum in La Rochelle. Inv. no.: MNM.1987.2.1, from the collections of the New World Museum in La Rochelle (17 - France).
