Ryoma Sakamoto was a revolutionary leader and samurai from Japan's late Edo period who sought to modernize and democratize the country through a constitutional government system inspired by Western ideas. He led the Kiheitai militia and developed strategies that involved guerrilla warfare against the Shogunate, but ultimately failed in his goals, succumbing to assassination before his plans could be fully implemented.
