Saitek X52 Button Box with frame
thingiverse
I was looking for extra buttons to enhance my VR flight sim experience. Since I play on an Obutto R3volution simpit, the limited throttle support plate required me to rigidly attach the button box to my Saitek X52 throttle. To address this, I redesigned the original item with a split support cradle that holds the X52 in place between two button boxes. A channel runs through the cradle for wiring from the bottom box to the top. The top and bottom sections mesh together but benefit from a little CA glue to keep everything secure. USB cables from the X52 and BBI-32 pass through the top button box together. As a frequent ejector due to my questionable piloting skills, I modified the original Thing into the bottom switchbox lid to include an eject button with a flip-up safety cover. The large printed button press-fits onto one of the momentary buttons listed below. The safety cover bolts into the frame using small bolts I had lying around - their size is unknown. In the previous version, Pitch/Yaw/Roll was included in the bottom lid, but rotary encoders proved to be terrible for adjusting trim. Sorry! This design is intended for use with a Leo Bodnar BBI-32 interface board. The cover plates from the original Thing should fit this one fine; I've also included my own designs. You can use any buttons you want - the top plates I included were designed for specific switches: Large on/off/on momentary switch Small on/off/on momentary switch Rotary encoder Small momentary push button You can add 3mm LEDs to these panel mounts.
