Saint Sylvester
thingiverse
André Keldermans (around 1400 - before 1488) or Antoine Keldermans (around 1450 - 1512)? Brabant, Mechelen. Around 1480-1500, limestone, original polychrome. Made with CapturingReality. According to legend, Saint Sylvester healed Emperor Constantine of leprosy and then received the papal tiara. During his reign, he supposedly witnessed the conversion of the emperor to Christianity. He also tamed the Capitol Dragon, a monster depicted at his feet like a domesticated animal. The face of the saint, delicate features, closely resembles a real portrait. This statue likely originated from the rood screen or choir fence of Saint-Rombaut Cathedral in Mechelen, demolished in 1664. Follow me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal for more updates.
