Saint Stephen at the MET, New York
myminifactory
Stephen or Stephan is traditionally regarded as the first martyr of Christianity. He was a deacon in the early church at Jerusalem who passionately taught that everyone deserves respect. This teaching angered members of various synagogues, who falsely accused him of disrespecting their traditions. At his trial, Stephen courageously spoke out against the Jewish authorities who were judging him, and they responded by stoning him to death. His tragic end was witnessed by Saul of Tarsus, a Pharisee who would later become a devoted follower of Jesus. This object is part of a global digital archive called Scan The World.
