Saint Roch
thingiverse
The original statue dates back to around 1520. It was crafted from walnut wood and features vibrant polychrome colors that have withstood the test of time remarkably well. The piece is a gift from Vermeersch, who presented it in 1911. It now resides at the Musée du Cinquantenaire in Brussels, Belgium. Saint Roch's life as a pilgrim and beggar was marked by selflessness. He distributed all his possessions to the poor before setting out on his journey. His travels took him to Italy where he demonstrated remarkable healing skills during an outbreak of the plague. Despite his success, Saint Roch eventually contracted the disease himself. For centuries, Saint Roch has been revered as the patron saint against epidemics and the plague. He is often depicted wearing pilgrim attire, with one leg exposed to reveal a plague bubo, a characteristic attribute associated with the saint.
